Cosmos is a wonderful science-fiction film that is thoroughly enjoyable due to many reasons. The film is clearly made on a shoestring budget with three great uncredited actors and a storyline that was flawless. The majority of the film was filmed inside an SUV, which was probably parked in the garage of the creators. No scene in this film feels cheap. The dialogue comes off as really honest and absolutely natural. The three really great performers who play the roles of Mike, Roy, and Harry make this movie very much a character-driven one. Although there is the first contact with an alien civilization, the story's main theme still happens to be friendship which is heart-warming. The movie can make you grin and is a great film to watch while one is down. The plot and character development are on point and overall, this is an entertaining film that deserves to be watched by all.
Cosmos had no funding or budget - all equipment was either owned prior to filming or borrowed, all locations were lent and all cast and crew worked on the project without a fee.
With the exception of scoring the film, directing brothers Elliot & Zander Weaver, took on all major production roles including: screenwriting, prop making, lighting and camerawork, sound recording, editing, sound designing and sound mixing, VFX, poster art and trailers creation.
Principal photography on Cosmos lasted approx 60 days. Post production, which was undertaken by just the two directors, lasted 31 months.
Cosmos took 5 years to produce from start to finish.
Excluding the directors, the crew of Cosmos at its busiest point during filming, totaled just three. 85% of the film was shot with the two directors and a crew of just one.
