TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Michelle Pfeiffer, who was dating original lead John Malkovich at the time, was attached to the female lead. When Malkovich walked off shortly before production began, Pfeiffer left as well. They were replaced by Dudley Moore and Daryl Hannah.

Promotional artwork for this film on DVD, home video and movie posters has shown actor Dudley Moore wearing a strait-jacket. But in a contra-position to the film's main theme of "truth in advertising", Moore is never actually seen in the movie wearing a strait-jacket.

Dudley Moore replaced John Malkovich. Malkovich was originally cast in the lead role of Emory Leeson, but walked off the set due to personal problems.

The advertising blurb for United Airlines went: "Your fear of flying may be valid. There are always plenty of plane crashes and people die like crazy. But you should also know that more people arrive at their destinations alive on our flights than on many others. So, if you have to fly, fly us. UNITED. Most of our passengers get there alive".

The name of the horror movie being promoted was "The Freak". The fictional film within this film was produced by Paramount Pictures who produced Crazy People (1990). The tagline for "The Freak" was "This movie won't just scare you, it will f*** you up for life!".

Popular Dialogues

"[Reading a magazine ad] Drucker: "Paramount Pictures presents 'The Freak.' This movie won't just scare you, it will fuck you up for life." I want to know how the fuck the word "fuck" gets in the New York fucking Times!"

"Charles Drucker: Harris. Say something honest, no holds barred. GO! Harris: I like... small boys. Charles Drucker: About the product, you fucking idiot!"
