TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

There had been multiple attempts to get this project made prior to Clint Eastwood's adaptation, as the project remained on a shelf for about 30 years. In 1991, production on an adaptation began in Mexico with actor Roy Scheider in the lead role, but the project was scrapped soon after. Another attempt was made in 2011 with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role. It would have marked his return to acting after his term as California Governor, but like the Scheider version, the project was canceled before production could get very far.

Clint Eastwood wrote one of the music themes that occur multiple times in the film. It is called "Time Lapse". In the official soundtrack, he also performs it.

Macho the rooster was played by 11 birds.

Clint Eastwood was offered the role of Mike in 1988, but did The Dead Pool (1988) instead. However, he offered to direct instead, and suggested Robert Mitchum for the role.

N. Richard Nash wrote the film's screenplay in the 1970s, but it was rejected twice by 20th Century Fox. He reworked the screenplay into a novel, which was published on June 11 1975. After receiving positive reviews for the novel, Nash pitched the screenplay again, without changing a word, around several other studios before his death in 2000.

Popular Dialogues

"Rafa: His name is Macho, like me. Very strong rooster Rafa: Whatever Rafa: What's wrong with that? Miko: Nothing. Guy wants to name his cock Macho, it's OK by me"

"Miko: This macho thing is overrated. Just people trying to show that they've got grit. That's about all they end up with. It's like anything else in life: you think you got all the answers, then you realize, as you get older, you don't have any of them."
