Emily The Criminal Review

Mostly true to its name, Emily the Criminal is a snappy, tight-knit thriller about a lady who gains confidence as she delves deeper into the criminal underground. Aside from modern references to the gig economy, it's an ancient story of someone being rejected by the system they previously obeyed and the small voice asking them to stop gradually getting silenced. Ford isn't attempting to justify Emily, but he's eager to try and do so. From the bleak opening shot, as a job interview turns into mulch in front of her, we see not just a barely restrained frustration but also a smouldering rage. Every time there is another humiliation, no matter how small, it eats away at her resolve, bringing her closer to a world free from humiliations. There are several intriguing moments of suspense that keep the viewers on edge. The film has several charged and exciting elements as well. definitely should be watched.
