Very loosely based on the 1972 non-fiction book, "Report From Engine Company 82" by retired FDNYC firefighter Dennis Smith. Smith sold the rights to the movie for $100,000--a huge sum of money in those days.
The firehouse was later used for the interiors of Ghostbusters headquarters in Ghostbusters 1 and 2.
