TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Originally intended as a vehicle for Ann Sheridan, who turned down role played by Joan Crawford.

Famed German film director Rainer Werner Fassbinder often named this film as one of his ten favorites, praising director Michael Curtiz as "cruelly overlooked". Curtiz was often cited as one of his greatest influences, and the opening scene of this film is "homaged" in the opening of Fassbinder's Fox and His Friends (1975).

The interior set of a passenger train seen here also was used in several other Warner Brothers films of the period, among them was Horse Trick Riders (1895)'s Strangers on a Train (1951) and the The Photographical Congress Arrives in Lyon (1895) comedy It's a Great Feeling (1949).

Remade as the television series Flamingo Road (1980).

Virginia Huston would appear with Joan Crawford again as her secretary, Ann, in Sudden Fear (1952).

Popular Dialogues

"Sheriff Titus Semple: Now me, I never forget anything. Lane Bellamy: You know sheriff; we had an elephant in our carnival with a memory like that. He went after a keeper that he'd held a grudge against for almost 15 years. Had to be shot. You just wouldn't believe how much trouble it is to dispose of a dead elephant."

"Sheriff Titus Semple: Ya can't go wrong in this town if you say Yep to the right people and Nope to the rest."
