TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Shot without permits. The crew wore UCLA T-shirts so they could pass themselves off as students learning how to film in the field.

Robert Townsend put $40,000 of the film's $100,000 budget on ten personal credit cards. He got free film stock by splicing together leftovers from the production of Odd Jobs (1986) and Ratboy (1986). The 17 days of shooting were spread over two years, between Townsend's tours as a stand-up comedian.

John Witherspoon improvised the "ho-cake" monologue.

Included among the American Film Institute's 2000 list of the 500 movies nominated for the Top 100 Funniest American Movies.

At the beginning of the film, just after Bobby Taylor walks into the TinselTown Pictures offices, there is a close-up of the interview sheet showing his appointment for 10:30. The other names on the sheet are the actual names of other actors appearing in the film.

Popular Dialogues

"Speed: Welcome to Sneakin' In The Movies. My name is Speed and this is my homeboy Tyrone. And we are like movie critics and shit Tyrone: Well not really. Peep this. Each week me and my boy, you know, we go to different theaters and stuff and sneak in and check out the movie. Speed: Then we come back and tell you all what's up. Like if you should pay money and shit."

"Mr. Jones: This is not your average hot dog stand. You know what this is? This is: Winky Dinky Dog! Bobby Taylor: I know, I know. And I'm glad to be working here at Winky Dinky Dog. Mr. Jones: Yeah! It sends chills down my spin. Every time I say it. Winky Dinky Dog. Bobby, say it with me. Come on. Bobby Taylor: Winky Dinky Dog! Winky - Dinky - Dog! Mr. Jones: Yeah. Woo! Em-mm-mm-mm-mm. Yeah, I like that."
