IMDbThe life of Arun Neelakandan, a young man pursuing engineering in Chennai, is followed in Vineeth Sreenivasan's coming-of-age drama Hridayam. Arun's relationship with his first love, Darshana, goes through many ups and downs over four years. He also encounters other significant events that help define his character. As Arun, Pranav Mohanlal turns in a notable performance, and Darshana Rajendran gives a rich, subtle depiction of the character of Darshana as she changes. The depiction of Nithya by Kalyani Priyadarshan gives the movie a brighter, more upbeat feel. Despite some flaws, the movie still holds the audience's attention with its relatable scenes and general plot. The two halves have different tones because the first half is more dramatic and exciting, and the second half is more content and light. Viswajith's photography is understated and effective, and Hesham Abdul Wahab's score perfectly complements the story. Despite having a three-hour duration, the movie never feels tedious and is consistently interesting. Hridayam is a tribute to the importance of college life in developing a person's character. Despite its faults, it is a relatable and heartwarming coming-of-age drama, and it is likely to hold up well over time.
The film was shot in the same college, KCG College of Technology, and in the same classes where Vineeth and his wife studied.
Pranav live performed guitar in the scene where Arun plays guitar to the song of Darshana, the same was used in the film.
The photographs which Arun (Pranav) shows to Jimmy (Aju Varghese) when they first meet in the bus were actually taken by Pranav himself.
Parts of the film was based on the life of Vineeth and his wife Divya and their friends from college.
Pranav himself impromptu choreographed his movements in "Darshana" song. Vineeth told him to do whatever he feels like doing.
