Despite being an American, Robert Lorenz decided to keep the film as authentically Irish as possible, not only employing an all-Irish cast, but also employing an all-Irish crew.
When Finbar is looking through Kevin's record collection, the album he has in his hands is "Live! In Europe" by Rory Gallagher, released in 1972.
Liam Neeson and Ciarán Hinds previously starred in Excalibur (1981) and Silence (2016) together, but never shared a scene in either movie.
Just before to die, Bart McGuiness questions Finbar where they are. When Finbar says "Donegal", Bart replies "The forgotten county". It's a real nickname: Donegal is the most northerly county on the island (in addition it's not in Northern Ireland) and it's isolated culturally and even politically by the other more populated counties because its peculiar wilderness geography and its remote access to it, which justifies the nickname.
In the movie Finbar gets involved against IRA's terrorists. He played one of the IRA's first leaders in Michael Collins (1996)'s as the titular role.
