  • Story:
The most recent documentary from Netflix focuses on the ascent and fall of Dr. Hwang Woo-suk, who rose from obscurity to become a national hero for Korea before becoming a shame to the scientific world. The documentary tells a tale of catching up and probes out the boundaries between scientific advances and unethical behaviour. Aditya Thayi's King of Clones rekindles the ongoing argument between ethicists and scientists as technological breakthroughs frequently pit what is feasible against what is acceptable through the tale of Hwang Woo-suk, a pioneer in the science of cloning. However, King of Clones is also about Hwang's fall from grace following a controversy that reverberated across the scientific community all over the world, in addition to the conflict between ethics and uncontrolled development. The real-life events that led to Hwang Woo-suk's scientific misconduct in King of Clones are as odd as they are disturbing.
