At the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival screening, Patricia Clarkson revealed that her name was attached to this project for nine years, and didn't drop out of it because she loved the script.

Patricia Clarkson approached Sir Ben Kinsgley and Director Isabel Coixet with the script for this movie when they realized how much fun they were having doing Elegy (2008).

Matt Salinger (Peter) is the son of author J.D. Salinger and was coaxed out of acting retirement by Director Isabel Coixet, who liked him so much, that she put him her next movie as well.
