The name of the character Artie Fol comes from the acronym AFOL (which is actually the way other characters refer to him). It means "Adult Fan Of LEGO".
Paul Michael Glaser's character is called Kjeld Playwell. Kjeld being the name of the CEO of the Lego Company (Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen), and Playwell being what the word "Lego" is derived from: the Danish "Leg" and "Godt", which mean play well.
The name of the lead character is derived from the term 'clutch power', used by LEGO designers, referring to how much 'grip' a LEGO element (brick) has; too little and it will fall away from the bricks it is connected to, too much and the parts will be too difficult for children to pull apart.
Skelly makes a cameo appearance in The Lego Movie (2014) as a statue figure atop a horse in the old west saloon. He is visible when Wyldstyle and Emmett first enter the saloon.
