Features 12 videos. The album title was inspired by Beyoncé's grandmother, Agnéz Deréon, as well as Jay Z's grandmother, Hattie White. At the end of the track "Freedom," Hattie White is heard speaking to a crowd at her 90th birthday party in April 2015. During the speech, Hattie says, "I had my ups and downs, but I always found the inner strength to pull myself up. I was served lemons, but I made lemonade."
To further promote the album, Beyoncé embarked on the Formation world tour beginning in April 2016.
"The Woman: You remind me of my father, A magician. Able to exist in two places at once. In the tradition of men in my blood, you come home at 3am and lie to me. What are you hiding... The past and the future merge to meet us here. What luck. What a f*cking curse."
"The Woman: I tried to change. Closed my mouth more. Tried to be softer, prettier, less awake. Plugged my menses with pages from the Holy Book but still coiled inside me was the need to know: Are you cheating on me?"
