Maataraani Mounamidhi is a Tamil horror thriller movie that follows Ram, who falls in love with Sita, a dancer who can't speak, while staying at his brother-in-law Eeshwar's residence in a small town. The film lacks focus and goes around in circles for a major part, making it hard for the audience to stay invested. Plus, the director struggles to transform his ideas into visually captivating sequences. The songs aren't memorable, so isn't the background score. Debutants Mahesh Datta and Soni Srivastava make for a decent on-screen pair and have a good screen presence, while Srihari Udayagiri's magician-act could have been written better. Overall, Maataraani Mounamidhi is a poorly made horror thriller that fails to deliver on its promise of a supernatural twist to Quantum's dual-body theory. The dull screenplay takes its own sweet time to arrive at its core conflict, and the payoff isn't great either. Among the actors, Mahesh Datta, Archana Ananth, and Soni Srivastava make an impression.
