The film was based on 2008 Korean film the Chaser inspired by by real-life Korean serial killer Yoo Young-Chu,another story is quite similar to this the story of Peter Sutcliffe a serial killer who killed prostitutes between 1975 t0 1980 in London saying it was the message of God.
Sadashiv Amrapurkar was offered to play a cameo as an eunuch who is also a powerful politician by Mahesh Bhatt,Sadshiv Amrapurkar wanted his character to be as strong as Maharani in Sadak 1991 hence declined it and the part went to Sandip Sickand.
The film was shot in Mumbai and Goa. Earlier, Bipasha Basu was offered the part of the leading lady, but she refused. Then Mohit Suri offered the leading role to Asin Thottumkal but, she thought the role of leading lady is not so powerful so she also refused to do this role. The part then went to Jacqueline Fernandez, after also considering actress Sonal Chauhan.
The song "Haal-E-Dil" had to be re-shot to make it more suitable for television promos.
Arijit Singh first ever song Phir Mohabbat Karne Chala Hai Tu is in this movie.
