Jackie Chan filmed an explosion scene. When the fiery police car came sliding dangerously close, the crew jumped out of the way and tried to pull Jackie out of harm's way. But Jackie yelled, "No! Don't run!" and continued filming what turned out to be a spectacular piece of action.
Jackie Chan sings the theme song, "September Storm".
Jackie Chan and Nicholas Tse performed the sequence where Chan Kwok-Wing goes to do the wire on the outside of building without the use of special effects or a stunt double.
Despite having "Police Story" in the title, this movie has nothing to do with Chan's other previous entries to the franchise, as well as being the first film to not focus on the comical Inspector Chan Ka-Kui (Jackie Chan). The movie is instead the beginning of the Police Story reboot series where the alternate protagonist Senior Inspector Chan Kwok-Wing (Jackie Chan) is the new hero of the anthology, while Detective Zhong Wen (Jackie Chan) in Police Story: Lockdown (2013) became the third main protagonist.
Charlie Yeung came out of retirement to play Sun Ho Yee.
"[Chan has just knocked a goon out cold] Zheng Xiaofeng: [Stops fighting and looks at Chan's handiwork] Oh! That's my man! [Is subsequently punched in the mouth]"
