TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Though promised a cleaned-up version of the extended VHS work-print dubbed "The Cabal Cut" in July 2014, fans were delighted when Scream Factory announced that the original film was found, restored at 4K and re-cut under Clive Barker's supervision, ending a 24-year-long plea for the "Directors Cut" to be released, in two packages in Oct. 2014.

The character played by David Cronenberg is named Dr. Philip K. Decker, a reference to sci-fi author Philip K. Dick. Deckard was the last name of the protagonist in Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", which was later adapted as Blade Runner (1982).

Clive Barker has gone on record as saying that he felt that distributor Fox and financiers Morgan Creek Productions never understood the film and simply cut the story to pieces so it would fit what their idea of the picture should have been.

David Cronenberg wrote the script for Naked Lunch (1991) in his spare time when he wasn't acting in this; 1988 produced film.

In the Bible, Midian was the land in which Moses lived for forty years in self-imposed exile. It was in Midian that God appeared to Moses as the burning bush, telling him to go back to Egypt to free the Israelites.

Popular Dialogues

"Boone: That's true. Peloquin: Everything is true. God's an Astronaut. Oz is Over the Rainbow, and Midian is where the monsters live... And you came to die."

"Rachel: To be able to fly, to be smoke, or a wolf? To know the night and live in it forever? That's not so bad. You call us 'monsters,' but when you dream, you dream of flying, and changing, and living without death. You envy us, and what you envy... Lori Desinger: ...We destroy."
