Onus Chapter 1 was made for just £100 over 4 days in Norway and a half day in Ballygally, County Antrim. Director George Clarke was angry at local funding bodies NI Screen who were concerned that horror was the only subject he could handle. The same week, with just an idea in mind and no script, he flew actors Robert Render, Anthony Boyle and himself out to Norway and began filming.
The Norwegian hunter in Chapter 1 is actually director George Clarke's best friend from childhood. He and his family put the team up during their stay in Norway, and George would not take no for an answer when asking (Kenny) to play a small role.
Heavy rain stopped the final day shoot in Norway. Once home, George arranged a half day shoot on the top of Ballygally head just up the Antrim Coast which fit quite well with the Norwegian scenery.
Onus Chapter 2 was written and shot exactly 1 year later in the hottest weeks of June 2013 and all in Northern Ireland. Director George Clarke felt that a feature could work and penned what he calls 'the flip-side of the coin' based on a female side to the story.
Vivian Jamison, one of the directors best friends, played her fist serious role in Onus Chapter 2 and was quite concerned about her performance as George and her would be in constant laughter. The end result proves otherwise and showed Vivian in a new light as a serious actor.
