Prom Pact is a refreshing high school comedy that successfully balances the fun and daunting experiences of high school. The film flips the genre tropes by making the protagonist, Mandy, a girl who can be mean at times and the jock, Ben, a victim of sorts. The movie's greatest merit is its emphasis on friendship, as Mandy and Ben's relationship serves as the core of the story. However, it is strange that the movie establishes two other best friends for Mandy and Ben, only to ignore their existence for most of the story. Director Anya Adams delivers good comedy without relying on easy tropes, making the movie a joy to watch. Margaret Cho stands out as Ms. Chen, providing good advice to Mandy without standing in the way of the protagonist. Prom Pact also touches on themes like taxing the super rich, white privilege, and saving the bees, indicating that Gen Z stories do not ignore the world around them. Ultimately, Prom Pact reminds viewers not to let time pass them by and to find their people while allowing themselves to have the best time possible, especially during their teenage years. It is the perfect choice for a light and fun watch, with an excellent cast and a celebration of friendship that John Hughes would be proud of.
