Originally produced in 1981-1982, and intended as a prime-time TV special for ABC. The project was shelved after negative reaction by H-B and Taft executives to the film's graphic imagery, particularly relating to the 1960s and the Vietnam War. The film was retooled in the mid-80s, with a new sequence featuring classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon clips set to "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go." To date, the film has only had one public screening in the United States, at the 2nd Los Angeles International Animation Celebration in July 1987.
Scatman Crothers' final role; the film was released a year after his death.
