The real film in Screen Test ends up being financed by Dr. DeSade, a plastic surgeon. In actuality, Screen Test itself was financed by three plastic surgeons from the Chicago area: Dino DeLicata, Benjamin LeCompte III and Frank Madda. They are mentioned in the opening credits.
Almost all professional reviews for this movie gave it the lowest possible rating. Sam Auster doesn't seem to mind, though, and wrote on Facebook, "I was a kid when I made it and had no idea what I was doing." He's more proud of his 2011 film The Return of Joe Rich.
This feature film ''was theatrically released by CineTel and shipped a record number of units'' according to writer-producer-director Sam Auster.
Many of Sam Auster's family participated in the making of this movie: his sister Laura Auster co-scripted and co-produced it; his sister JoAnn Auster plays one of the soap stars; his uncle Frank Madda financed the film; his uncle Lucien Madda plays the priest; his niece Michelle Madda plays the punk girl at the auditions; and his brother Joe Auster was a construction manager.
