The building on fire at the start of the episode is Guys Cliffe House in Warwick. Unfortunately the pyrotechnics were too powerful and gutted the famous landmar.
The production crew accidentally set fire to the ruined Guy Cliffes House in Warwick (featured at the end) causing even more damage.
This adaptation of the short story "The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire," isn't looked upon very favourably by the fans of this Sherlock Holmes TV series. The episode has been heavily criticised for failing to follow even the rudiments of the original story.
The opening scene takes place on November 8, 1782.
Holmes and Watson do not appear until eleven minutes into this episode.
"Sherlock Holmes: [after scaring Watson in vampire fashion] Sorry to have alarmed you, Watson, but your reaction was instructive. So you believe in their existence? Doctor Watson: What? Sherlock Holmes: Vampires. Doctor Watson: [angrily] No, of course I don't. Sherlock Holmes: Your attitude suggests the contrary."
