Although filmed in the spring of 1992, the movie did not have a theatrical release until 1994.
The film was released three months after River Phoenix's death of a drug overdose on October 31, 1993. It marked his final completed performance.
Timothy Scott appeared in Lonesome Dove (1989) opposite Director Sam Shepard's ex-wife, O-Lan Jones. Shepard took over Scott's role in Streets of Laredo (1995).
