The part of Sheriff Jack Garris was offered to Leo Rossi, Michael Pare, Marc Singer, Roddy Piper, and Bret Hart. Roddy Piper's agent showed initial interest and soon after Piper accepted the part.
Tom Savini was originally a choice for the Garris part as well, but he was offered the part of Daniel Phillips and the part was re-written with him in mind for the part.
After Roddy Piper accepted the part of Garris, Bret Hart was also offered the part of Daniel Phillips.
