Spread Review

Spread, a movie about a good-looking man having affairs with an older woman, is quite funny, but the film lacks a good story, which makes it lose its charm after a few minutes. The movie becomes a little predictable, and you can easily guess what may happen in the coming scene, which makes the audience lose interest in the midst of watching it. The only good thing about this movie is the main lead, Ashton Kutcher, who is quite promising in his role and played it quite smoothly, as if he were made for it. The audience might get a little uncomfortable while watching some scenes of the movie, so we do not recommend them watching it around their kids because things could get a little awkward. The dialogues of the movie are funny, and the comic timing of the characters is something to look out for. Since the movie is set in Los Angeles, the locations that the movie is shot in are really beautiful.

TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

The party scene very early in the movie that introduces Anne Heche is an impressively orchestrated long take (no cuts) lasting more than three and a half minutes.

Anne Heche was paid $65,000 for her performance in this movie. Heche was divorcing Coleman 'Coley' Laffoon at the time, and the amount became known from her financial declaration.

Ashton Kutcher prepared for his role by speaking with Warren Beatty who played a similar character in Shampoo (1975). He also read Neil Strauss's non-fiction book "The Game", which is about pickup artists.

Jennifer Jason Leigh was originally cast as Samantha, but had to drop out. Anne Heche replaced her.

Talking about her explicit sex scenes with Ashton Kutcher, Anne Heche said, "I certainly can say I've gone further in this movie than I ever have before. Why didn't I do this when I was twenty-two?". What made such bravery possible for Heche, though, was that she didn't find the film's sexual situations gratuitous."I certainly haven't seen a truthful portrayal of an adult sex life in a film in awhile, and it's bold to be able to do that. It may be uncomfortable, it may be sexy, it may be heartbreaking. Maybe disturbing. But true stuff," she said.

Popular Dialogues

"Nikki: [as he's preparing a meal] It doesn't matter if you can cook or not. Women grade on effort. It's almost better when the meal's a flop. It shows you're willing to make a fool of yourself. It's all about creating equity. Think of it as a point system. One for flowers, two for dinner, three for an orgasm. You need 26 points for them to trust you. And then you can go back to watching football."

"[first lines] Nikki: My whole life it was obvious I was going to end up in this city. I don't want to be arrogant here, but I'm an incredibly attractive man. I can't help it, I don't try to be, I just am. When I was a kid my mother's best friend used to tell me that I was gonna be a little heart breaker. Turns out she was right. Her husband came home from work one day and found us fuckin' on the Stairmaster. Los Angeles, California - that's where all the beautiful little heart breakers go to live the dream. 30,000 of them arrive here every single month. 30,000 prom kings and queens, and Little Miss Cute Tits every one of them with stars in their eyes and a dream in their heart. When I first came out here, I had a dream - a dream of an easy life. I was gonna get rich from lyin' around having my picture taken. I was gonna live in the hills and drive a noisy yellow sports car and f*ck 6' girls who weighed 89 lbs. Guess what? Most of it came true."
