Season Hubley (Jennifer) had originally been considered for the role of Carol Grayland in Stepfather II (1989).
In this movie, Keith Grant (Robert Wightman) becomes a gardener at a plant nursery. John List, who The Stepfather was based on, took up gardening as a hobby while he was on the lam for eighteen years. He particularly did this after marrying his second wife and moving to Virginia. Also, like John List, in this movie, Keith Grant attends church, where he meets Christine (Priscilla Barnes) and Andy (David Tom). Throughout his life, List was a devout Lutheran, and taught Sunday school at every church he attended in his lifetime.
This is the final Stepfather film.
