Kelly Brook broke up with her boyfriend-at-the-time Jason Statham during production of the film.
Kelly Brook had an affair with Billy Zane during production.
In 2005, Billy Zane and Kelly Brook unsuccessfully challenged the film's producers to remove Brook's nude scenes from the movie. The pair, who met on the set of the thriller, were uncomfortable with the amount of flesh Brook flashes in the movie, particularly during a raunchy sequence with actor Juan Pablo Di Pace.
This is the third film where Billy Zane is on a sinking ship and becomes involved in a love triangle following Dead Calm (1989) and Titanic (1997).
Juan Pablo Di Pace said he wasn't surprised that his sex scenes he had with Kelly Brook made Billy Zane so wild with jealousy. "We were totally confident together," said Juan. "It did feel natural. There were cameras, but that moment of intimacy can only happen if there is chemistry between two people and thankfully that was the case. When I first saw Kelly of course I thought she was an amazingly beautiful woman. We hit it off like a house on fire. There was instant chemistry at the first audition, and I think that's what made the producers make their choice." And it was that natural sexual ease that made filming 12 hours of love making on a beach in the Bahamas so easy, said Juan, who then added: "There was one moment when the crew told us to go far away for a long shot. We were by ourselves, I was on top of Kelly and I just had to look away from the camera and laugh. Kelly whispered, 'What are you doing?' But I knew millions of men would do anything to trade places with me, I just couldn't believe I was getting paid to do this stuff."
