IMDbThe Oscar-winning crime film “The Departed,†directed by Martin Scorsese, is based on the life of notorious Boston mobster Whitey Bulger and is a remake of the Hong Kong crime classic “Infernal Affairsâ€. With a brilliant script written by William Monahan, the film is a masterclass in storytelling and one of the legend's many masterpieces. The direction was pretty amazing and some of the sequences that were filmed and staged were quite admirable. Particularly with reference to scenes from police interrogations in Chinatown and other locations. The movie nicely put up with tense, suspenseful sequences and sprinkles of humor occasionally. The cast of the film has given amazing performances and the script is excellent. The scene-to-scene conversations are realistic and very compelling. The acting was another aspect of The Departed that was much better than Infernal Affairs. With this part, DiCaprio definitely seemed to get a lot of respect. He does a great job and the film is definitely worth the watch.

Leonardo DiCaprio called his one-on-one scene with Jack Nicholson "one of the most memorable moments of my life."
Martin Scorsese really wanted Al Pacino for the role of Costello, because he had never worked with Pacino before, but he turned it down. Jack Nicholson was Scorsese's second choice. Pacino would later go on to appear in Scorsese's The Irishman (2019).
Leonardo DiCaprio described his character as being in a "constant, 24-hour panic attack."
When the film won the Oscar for Best Picture, Martin Scorsese said that he was surprised the film had won. Scorsese said that because the film is such a tough, nasty, and violent film, he never thought about the idea of awards while he was filming it.
Mark Wahlberg easily fell back on his native accent. Martin Scorsese joked it was so thick, they'd need subtitles.
"Dignam: [observing an exchange of microprocessors for money between Costello and Chinese triad members] This is unbelievable. Who put the fuckin' cameras in this place? Police Camera Tech: Who the fuck are you? Dignam: I'm the guy who does his job. You must be the other guy."
"Ellerby: [jokingly with Colin] I'm gonna go have a smoke right now. You want a smoke? You don't smoke, do ya, right? What are ya, one of those fitness freaks, huh? Go fuck yourself."
