The title of the original Filipino film (Sigaw) translates to The Shout or The Scream. The title on the DVD release was changed to The Echo to avoid confusion with Wes Craven's horror film entitled Scream (1996). This remake followed suit.
Director Yam Laranas's feature film debut in America. He directed the original film Sigaw (2004) and returned to direct this remake.
Iza Calzado (Gina) appeared in the original film Sigaw (2004), and returned for the remake, reprising her role of the doomed housewife Gina.
After being screened at the Fantasia Film Festival, this film failed to get a distributor and was instead released straight-to-video on DVD and Blu-ray. The theatrical release occurred internationally. It's theorized that the film wasn't picked up due to the diminishing interest in Asian horror remakes from the public, which were dying out when this film was released.
