On September 14th 2021, JoJo Siwa tweeted that Nickelodeon demanded a rule that she cannot perform any of the movie's original songs for her tour in 2022. This created a controversy where JoJo fans have stood out with her telling Nickelodeon to give back her rights to her songs.
This is the first JoJo Siwa film to be produced by Nickelodeon Movies. It is also the first live-action Nickelodeon Movies film to release on Paramount+ instead of theaters.
This film was promoted in an episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon with JoJo Siwa in an interview and dance-off skit.
JoJo Siwa had created 6 original songs for the film, the songs "D.R.E.A.M" and "Only Getting Better" were the only tracks that were used from previously released media.
Tisha Campbell stated in an interview that every culture was represented in this film at certain points.
