This was the first time Velociraptors (deinonychus) have appeared in the Land Before Time series.
Whitby Hertford, who voices Hyp in this movie, also appeared in another dinosaur related film two years prior. In the beginning of Jurassic Park (1993) as the young boy at the archaeological dig site that Dr. Alan Grant scares and intimidates with his knowledge of raptors.
This was the only film in the series where Frank Welker was credited for voicing a Sharptooth.
26 species of animals were featured in this film. 6 of them were already extinct by the time the movie was set excluding the Ichthyostega, Nostolepis, and Trilobite from the introduction.
Although it is never mentioned at any point in the movie, the second member of Hyp's group is named Nod, the four legged one with the spiked shellback.
