Originally, the movie was supposed to be called "Freak the Mighty", just like the book. But, Miramax, the studio that distributed the movie, found the title too offensive, so the title was chopped to two thirds of the original title to "The Mighty".
Originally, the author of the source book, Rodman Philbrick, also wrote the screenplay, but that screenplay was scrapped because it was too much like the book.
The trailer features two scenes not used in the final film: Max playing with one of Kevin's toys and Kevin getting a computer on Christmas.
Kieran Culkin and Elden Henson would go on to star in She's All That (1999) one year later.
Although Keiran Culkin and Elden Henson share the majority of the screentime, they are not listed in the top billed cast.
"Kevin Dillon: Every word is part of a picture. Every sentence is a picture. All you do, is let your imagination connect them together. If you have an imagination that is."
"[last lines] Maxwell Kane: By the time we get here, which I guess should be the end, you're going to know the story of Freak the Mighty, who slayed dragons, saved maidens, and walked high above the world."
