Kermit the Frog asks the Wizard of Oz if he has met Frank Oz, one of The Muppets' founding fathers.
At a certain point in the movie, Toto the Prawn says that the viewer should start listening to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album, joking about a popular coincidence relating to The Wizard of Oz (1939): certain songs from the album are said to match perfectly with images from the movie.
The movie pays several homages The Wiz (1978): Dorothy is African-American, Oz is depicted as a modern city, the Flying Monkeys are a biker gang and the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion are tortured in a similar fashion.

Kermit, Fozzie and Gonzo play the same Wizard of Oz roles they did in Muppet Babies: By the Book (1985).

Crazy morphing! We're talking Piggy turning into Gonzo, mutating into Scooter. Scooter turning in to a big, busty vampire vixen who explodes in a sea of crimson blood! Hahahahaha. All done in the classic Japanese anime style. You know, for the kids. Kermit the Frog: Um, yeah. Sounds... expensive. Quentin Tarantino: Think, think, think, think, think. I can work with this. Think, think, think [snaps fingers] Quentin Tarantino: I got it! [climbing on the table] Quentin Tarantino: Dorothy... big bad Dorothy goes to kick the witch, are ya ready for this... are ya ready? Kermit the Frog: Yeah. Quentin Tarantino: ...In the face! Kermit the Frog: Hmmm... oh. Now that we can afford Quentin Tarantino: [hits the table with joy] YES!"
