TRIVIA

Trivia

The film was shot almost entirely in Palm Island also know as the Island of Rabbits, the largest of 3 flat islands that constitute the Palm Island Nature Reserve in northern Lebanon. The reserve's islands shelter endangered turtles and monk seals, in addition to being a resting and nesting site for migratory birds that come from Europe. The islands of the Palm Islands Nature Reserve have been protected by law since March 1992. In 1995, the reserve was designated as a Mediterranean Specially Protected Area under the 1995 Barcelona Convention. The island is believed to have been inhabited by the Phoenicians and other ancient civilizations.

Prior to principal photography, the entire cast, producers and crew spent two days cleaning up the island from general waste, glass and plastic bottles returning it to its pristine state. The move was hailed by the local fishermen and local authorities.

At the end of the world premiere screening, part of the audience was left speechless and tearful and was seen thanking the Netflix teams for having the courage, sensibility and vision in attaching themselves to the film.

This is the first time an Arab film involves pedigree tech crew including Academy Award Winning Sound Designer Martín Hernandéz (The Revenant; Birdman; Pan's Labyrinth); editor Nacho Ruis Capillas (The Others; White Elephant; Agora); and composer West Dylan Thordson (Split; Glass; I, Tonya, Joy).

This marks the second film from producing duo Mario Jr. Haddad and Gianluca Chakra in collaboration with exec producer Mayada AlHiraki which also includes Nadine Labaki. They all had previously worked together on the highly successful Arabic language adaptation of Perfect Strangers (As7ab Wala 2a3azz). Haddad and Chakra started their collaboration on the release of Nadine Labaki's "Where Do We Go Now?" making it the highest grossing Lebanese film ever to be distributed in Lebanon and across the Middle East and North Africa.
