The movie's odd-looking writing credits ("Written by Mark Brown & Duane Martin and Duane Martin & Tisha Campbell-Martin") are not an error, but from a determination by the Writers Guild of America that the movie is based on two distinct versions of the script: One written by Brown and Martin together, and a rewrite by Martin and his then-wife Campbell-Martin together.
This movie was directed by Nick Castle who is famous for playing Michael Myers in the Halloween franchise directed by John Carpenter. Carpenter also directed the original 1980 version of "The Fog". In the 2005 remake of that film, the co-star of this film, DeRay Davis, also starred in that remake as a character who is best friends with another character named Nick Castle. That aforementioned character was named after the director of this film, The Seat Filler, Nick Castle.
"[first lines] Vicki: My name is Vicki Curtis. And you are here to be Seat Fillers. Your job is to make sure the audience never looks empty. Because without you it would look like missing teeth. We, ladies and gentlemen, we complete the smile of Hollywood. All right ya bunch of nobodies, pull out your Seat Filler rule books and read along with me. No chewing gum. No bright colors. No hats, cellphones, or pagers. No gassy foods the night before. And never ever remove your blue ribbon, it's how we identify you. Vicki: You. Stand up. That's right, you. [approaching] Vicki: You're crowding me. [feels his seat] Vicki: Be gone. Hit the bricks. Guy: What did I do? Vicki: Your ass is too hot! Go, you've lost your seat."
"Derrick: Ma, I'm trying to be a lawyer. I have to focus until I get everything in place. Derrick's Mom: All right. Well, you're gonna find yourself standing in the middle of everything, surrounded by nothin'."
