Tar is an amazing movie that has a profound psychologically twisted meaning and if one gets their head wrapped around this component, there are times when you won't be checking the time. Although Blanchett delivers a masterful performance as the tyrannical Lydia Tar, the majority of the reviews for this movie are giving it five stars which may be a bit much. Favors, bullying, sexual assault, power struggles, and more, are all too common in the profession of arts and also other professions where popularity and tiny chances of recognition are highly valued. The film has some dull moments but the great ones are so fantastic that it compensates for the dull moments. The plot development was not as smooth although the storyline has a lot of potential. The last hour of the film specifically is very impactful and engaging. The message of abuse of power is beautifully delivered and the film is worthy of a watch.

Cate Blanchett had to re-learn the piano, learned how to speak German, and learned how to conduct an orchestra for the film.
Professional cellist Sophie Kauer had no prior acting experience and auditioned at the encouragement of a friend. She learned to act by watching YouTube tutorials hosted by Michael Caine.
The screams Lydia hears when jogging in the woods are the audio of Heather Donahue from the climax of The Blair Witch Project (1999).
Scenes of the orchestra playing are completely, 100 percent real. Cate Blanchett was actually conducting the Dresden Orchestra.
Todd Field wrote the film specifically for Cate Blanchett and would not have made the film without her. They had previously planned to work on a different film that Field could not acquire financing for.
