The actor who played Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau in scenes shot after Peter Sellers' death was John Taylor, who doubled Sellers in The Fiendish Plot of Dr. Fu Manchu (1980).
Before Peter Sellers' death, two drafts had been written for another Pink Panther movie called "Romance of the Pink Panther". When Sellers died, the project was cancelled.
This movie is dedicated to Peter Sellers and was marketed as a tribute to him. The dedication states: "To Peter . . . the one and only Inspector Clouseau."
Peter Sellers' fourth wife, Lynne Frederick, won a $1,475,000 lawsuit against the makers of this movie. She said this movie insulted the memory of her late husband.
Production started two years after Peter Sellers died. Therefore, he features in archive footage only, with deleted scenes coming from The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976) and old footage coming from all of the previous Pink Panther movies.
