Randy Quaid couldn't reprise his role as Cousin Eddie, due to his arrest involving a house payment dispute. Quaid currently lives in Vermont. His character does get a mention.
As an homage to the previous four movies: National Lampoon's Vacation (1983), National Lampoon's European Vacation (1985), National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989), and Vegas Vacation (1997), the pictures Rusty looks at in his photo album near the beginning of the film, are taken from each of the aforementioned films.
The van in which the Griswolds are traveling is a Tartan Prancer (a heavily modified Toyota Previa).
