The movie was the very last production filmed on the famous "Mayberry" back-lot set at Desilu Studios in Culver City, California. This was just before the back-lot was razed in 1976. This film ended an era that lasted 49 years for the former "RKO 40 Acres" back-lot and then "Desilu Culver" back-lot.
Shot in about thirty days.
Andrew Stevens, who plays Paul, the friend of Jan Michael-Vincent's character, also starred in "Massacre at Central High" the same year, a movie with a similar plot theme as "Vigilante Force" - the bad guys are taken out by the good guys, but then the new good guys get power-mad and have to be taken out themselves.
The movie is a remake of 'Bucktown' '(1975) which starred Pam Grier and Fred Williamson and had debuted just the previous year.
Kris Kristofferson's character is a Vietnam War vet. He was a veteran Army helicopter pilot who served during the Vietnam War. Jan-Michael Vincent previously had served in the California National Guard.
