The film's original title was Stone's War, but was changed to War of the Dead, after Stan Lee had suggested it.
Shot in Lithuania back in 2007 and after the film was edited in 2008 the production ran out of financing and was put on hold until 2011 when the film was finally completed.
According to writer/director Marko Makilaakso, the film is a love letter to Action films of the 80s, like "Rambo", "American Ninja", "Terminator" and "Indiana Jones".
James Van Der Beek was originally cast to play Captain Stone.
