The invention featured in this movie is real. It was invented by the actor and director Pete Vinal. His Instagram account is @petevinal where he calls himself Popping lockin papa (sic) and shows photos of the Drink Genie.
When Pete sneaks into work a second time he dresses up as and impersonates Dr. Kelp from the 1963 comedy The nutty professor. It is refrenced a second time when Pete has a dream sequence from working out too hard and his arms are stretched out, much like the workout sequence in The nutty professor.
