The film name "Seto Surya (White Sun)" refers to one of element of the National Flag of Nepal, which contains a white sun and a crescent moon in the red background with blue boarder in 2 different triangular section.
White Sun is Rauniyar's 2nd feature film. Co-incidentally, both his films revolve around a three day period. His first feature film "Highway (2012)" is about passengers stuck in Bandha (Road Strike) and their struggle to reach their destination, which they reach on their third day.
Officially selected for foreign Oscar from Nepal.
It world premiered in the Horizons section at the 73rd edition of the Venice Film Festival. It was later screened at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. It was selected as the Nepali entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated.
