Rex the Dinosaur (voiced by Tim Connor) is an homage to George Plimpton, American writer and subject of the 1968 movie, Paper Lions.
"Rex: [after "Carol of the Bells"] Magnificent! Uh, who was that conductor again? Herb: Oh, I don't know, but his face sure rings a bell."
