Got mine few days back. I had held my purchase decision in light of availability of Ivy Bridge Core i7 mobile processors. Currently, only Dell [Alienware] and HP are offering Ivy Bridge CPU based notebooks in Indian markets. And with a price tag of 60k, this is a steal not a deal. Similar configuration from Alienware costs about 94000.00 + taxes. Performance wise, I have nothing to crib about this system. With the revised Intel Quick Sync, I could encode HD videos in minutes not hours. Boot times are blazing fast. AIDA64 benchmarks put the 3610QM CPU ahead of most Sandy Bridge (desktop) processors. Large memory read and write throughput. Intel HD 4000 is remarkable improvement from its predecessor 3000. Crisp image on external HDMI monitors for most everyday usage. Would not suffice for gaming needs. This is where nVIDIA 630M comes in to picture. Should be able to play most pre-2011 DX 10.1/DX 11 games. I am not in to gaming, hence can't present a definitive opinion. Based on benchmark results, the discrete GPU offers decent performance. Can also be used to encode videos - thanks to CUDA. All in all, I am immensely happy with this purchase. DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED!
You get a brand - HP, for this price with this configuration is the best. Will talk about all the features stepwise. 1. The processor is blazing fast, 3610QM quad-core with turbo boost upto 3.3ghz, can't get anymore for this price. Can handle upto 8 threads in parallel so it's really fast. 2. The chipset is HM77 chief river, which is a high performance chipset for support for RAID, talking in technical terms. In simple words, you have support for ultra speed hard disks called SSDs ( used in ultrabooks) and normal HDDs as well. So can opt for 128gb ssd and a 1tb 7200rpm hdd may be when you plan to upgrade You get other laptops in this price range with hm76 chipset which is mid-range chipset of 7series without RAID support. 3. RAM although looks less 6gb, is sufficient presently and could be upgraded to 16gb and it's fast with 1600mhz speed. 4. What disappoints me is the GPU, GT 630M is the rekindled version of GT 540 and is not the Kepler version, so looks fine for now, but not sure of some upcoming games to be smooth. Would have been ideal if it would have been the Kepler version GT 640M, which you find in laptops of 70-80k range. Guess can't have everything at this cost. 5. The display, keyboard and trackpad experiences are above average. Again can't have everything at this price right. Backlit keyboard, HD+ (1900*780) display would have been ideal again. Still good for the price and very much manageable. 6. Other pluses which are not found in others, are - fingerprint reader, Kensington lock and cool master technology with beats audio. 7. Beats audio experience is good, gives real cinematic experience for movies and captivating for games. 8. Talking about hard disk, it is much less for present needs, 640gb at 5400rpm. But the plus is it can be upgraded to higher capacity with higher speeds along with an ssd in parallel. This feature is not found in other laptops coz they are hm76 chipsets. Overall, with proper timely upgrades to ram and hard disk, this can be a great laptop for a longer period of time, ppl who are thinking to have this laptop for 6 years can have decent performance after 4 years and upto 6 years with proper upgradation. The only competition to this laptop presently is the ASUS K55VM, which is a great laptop with only defaulters as HM76 chipset and RAM expandable upto 8gb max. But pluses are that it comes with 8gb RAM inbuilt and 1TB hdd for a much less and much competitive price of 54k which is 6k less than this one.
