Apple’s March 4th event could culminate with multiple soft launches over several days: report

Highlights
  • Apple is tipped to roll out product news via press releases over several days.
  • There may be no single live streamed launch presentation on March 4th, claim analysts.
  • Rumoured releases include iPhone 17e, new iPads, and refreshed Macs.

Apple’s March 4th media event could end up being a culmination of several days of quieter product announcements, rather than a single launch event, according to reports from Daring Fireball’s John Gruber and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Apple has invited journalists to a “special experience” on March 4th in New York, London, and Shanghai, which is expected to focus on hands-on demos of new devices, which will expectedly arrive through press releases in the days leading up to it.

Gruber first floated the idea in a post on Daring Fireball, writing that his “spitball guess” is Apple will introduce products “via Newsroom press releases, day-by-day,” followed by in-person demos for the media. Gurman later said on social media that “Gruber’s spitball guess is exactly what I am expecting based on what I’ve heard,” adding that there may be no “real keynote” tied to the announcements.

What strikes me is that March 4 — the “experience” day — is a Wednesday. So my spitball guess is that they announce all these products via Newsroom press releases, day-by-day. Like, say, the iPhone 17e on Monday, new iPad(s) on Tuesday, and new MacBooks on Wednesday. And then the “experience” will be a hands-on thing with in-person demos. Spread the announcements out across a few days, but then have in-person events for members of the media to get a hands-on experience with all of them, station-by-station, without needing to produce an Apple Event keynote film.

Apple has not confirmed the format yet. While major iPhone launches typically get full keynote treatment, Apple has quietly refreshed Macs and iPads through press releases in recent years. Spreading multiple announcements across several days would allow each product category to get its own news cycle before the March 4th media briefings bring everything together.

Earlier reports suggest the week of March 2nd could bring updates across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Expected announcements include an iPhone 17e, a base iPad powered by the A18 chip, and an M4 iPad Air. On the Mac side, Apple is tipped to introduce a lower-cost MacBook using the A18 Pro chip, updated MacBook Air models with M5 processors, and MacBook Pro configurations featuring M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, along with refreshed Apple displays.

Other companies have used similar staggered rollouts to manage attention across product lines. Samsung often separates launches by category, while Google has introduced some Pixel and Nest devices through blog posts and short videos rather than a single showcase. A multi-day sequence of announcements would allow Apple to maintain visibility throughout the week, with the March 4th event acting as a wrap-up for media previews.

Apple’s invitations confirm that announcements are imminent. If the reports prove accurate, the March 4th event will not mark the start of Apple’s launches, but their culmination, bringing together several days of soft reveals into a single, hands-on media experience. Those considering a MacBook or iPad purchase may want to wait for the expected updates before deciding, particularly if new chips bring performance gains or if lower-cost models expand Apple’s lineup in price-sensitive markets such as India.
