The ASUS Vivobook Go 15 OLED is a laptop designed for those who need a reliable machine for both work and entertainment. It offers a balance of essential features at an affordable price point, making it a suitable choice for users looking for a versatile device.

With a price tag of around Rs 50,000 for the OLED version, it promises good value for money, especially for media consumption and everyday office tasks. Here is our full review of the ASUS Vivobook Go 15 OLED to see if it is worth your money.

This laptop was originally reviewed by Florence George and this article is based on his evaluation. Here’s the video review:

Design

The design of the Asus Vivobook Go 15 OLED is both practical and modern. The laptop features a full-size keyboard, which includes a numpad, making it convenient for tasks that require a lot of typing or numerical input.

The build quality is rated at 7.5 out of 10, indicating that while it’s solid, there is some flex in the keyboard area and a very slight flex in the lid. Despite these minor issues, the overall design feels sturdy, and the laptop can be carried around without worry of damage. The hinge of the laptop is capable of opening up to 180 degrees, providing flexibility in how you use the device.

Display

One of the high points of the Vivobook Go 15 is its display. This laptop comes with a 15.6-inch Full HD display in its OLED avatar, with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The display supports a 60Hz refresh rate and 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, making it great for media consumption.

The OLED panel has really saturated colours and deep blacks, thereby enhancing the viewing experience. Besides this, it features HDR 500 certification and claims a peak brightness of 600 nits, making the display quite workable for content consumption in bright as well as low-light environments. Budget-conscious buyers could opt for the non-OLED variant with an IPS panel for Rs 41,000.

Keyboard, Trackpad, and I/O

The keyboard on the Vivobook Go 15 is impressive, offering good tactile feedback and backlighting, which is especially useful when working in low-light environments. However, the trackpad, while functional, could have been slightly larger to improve usability. It’s a standard trackpad that gets the job done but doesn’t offer anything exceptional.

In terms of connectivity, the laptop has a mixed bag of ports. On the left side, there’s only a single USB 2.0 Type-A port, which feels a bit underwhelming. The right side is more equipped, featuring an audio combo jack, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port, another USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, an HDMI output, and a DC-in port.

A notable downside is the inability to charge the laptop via the Type-C port, which is a feature that could have added more convenience for users. Additionally, the laptop offers Wi-Fi 6E connectivity but lacks the ability to upgrade RAM or storage as the RAM is soldered and there’s no extra slot for storage expansion.

Performance

Performance-wise, the ASUS Vivobook Go 15 OLED is powered by a Ryzen 5 7520U processor with four cores and eight threads, delivering performance comparable to some of the older Intel Core i7 or newer Core i3 CPUs. This makes it capable of handling daily tasks like browsing, document editing, and even some light photo and video editing without any significant issues. The laptop comes with 16GB of DDR5 RAM, which ensures smooth multitasking, especially when using multiple tabs in Chrome or running various applications simultaneously.

The storage is handled by a 512GB Samsung Gen 3 SSD, which, although not the fastest, provides decent performance for general use.

When it comes to gaming, the laptop isn’t designed to be a gaming powerhouse, but it can handle lighter games. For instance, GTA V can run at around 23 FPS at full HD on high settings, but lowering the resolution to 720p increases the frame rate to a more playable 40 FPS. Similarly, Valorant runs smoothly at 94.2 FPS on the lowest settings at 1080p, making it a decent choice for casual gaming.

Features and audio

The Vivobook Go 15 OLED comes pre-installed with Microsoft Office and the MyASUS application, which allows users to adjust the fan profile and enable battery care mode. An audio equaliser is also available through the DTS settings in Windows, providing some customisation options for audio output.

Speaking of audio, the laptop’s sound quality is decent but not exceptional. It’s sufficient for watching videos and making video calls, but it might not satisfy those who are looking for a more immersive audio experience.

The laptop also features a 720p webcam, which includes a physical shutter for privacy. The webcam quality is standard, suitable for video calls and online meetings, but it doesn’t offer anything beyond the basics.

Battery and charging

Battery life is another strong point of the Vivobook Go 15 OLED. It comes with a 50Wh battery, which, according to benchmarks, can last up to 11 hours at 80 percent screen brightness. This makes it an excellent choice for users who need a laptop that can last through a full workday without needing to be charged.

However, the charging situation is a bit less ideal. The laptop can only be charged via the DC-in port, as it does not support charging through the Type-C port, which could be a disappointment for users who prefer the convenience of Type-C charging.

Verdict

The ASUS Vivobook Go 15 OLED is a solid laptop for those who are looking for an affordable yet capable device for both work and entertainment. The OLED display is a major selling point, offering stunning visuals that are hard to find in this price range. The laptop’s performance is adequate for everyday tasks and light gaming, and the battery life is impressive, making it a reliable companion for those who need a portable device.

However, there are some compromises, such as the lack of upgradability, the absence of Type-C charging, and the limited port selection. But considering the price, especially the Rs 50,000 price point for the OLED version, these drawbacks can be overlooked for the benefits that the laptop offers.

For users who don’t need the OLED display, the non-OLED version at Rs 41,000 is also a good option, offering the same performance and features minus the high-quality screen. Overall, the Asus Vivobook Go 15 OLED is a well-rounded laptop that delivers on its promises and provides good value for money.
