Apple switched up its launch cycle this year by announcing only the Pro models and debuting its first foldable. The standard iPhone 18 is expected to launch early next year alongside the rumoured iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2. A new leak from Weibo suggests Apple is on track to launch the iPhone 18, with production set to begin in November.
According to tipster Digital Focus on Weibo, iPhone 18 production is set to begin at the end of November. The tipster adds that the stock volume of the iPhone 18 looks quite large this time, suggesting that Apple is preparing for a lot of sales of its base iPhone model, which has usually been a popular pick in the lineup. This leak also adds to the speculation that Apple is indeed on track to launch the iPhone 18 early next year, possibly around spring.
The iPhone 18 might make its debut alongside the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 if Apple continues to upgrade the latter two models.
There have been several predictions and rumours about the iPhone 18, with most of them not sounding great. Apple is reportedly planning to upgrade the RAM capacity on the iPhone 18 to 9GB, up from the 8GB found on the iPhone 17. While this should help improve the overall performance, it will still not be enough to support some of the new iOS 27 AI features, as those require 12GB of RAM. This means that the iPhone 18 may not come with the complete deck of AI features available on iOS 27.
Apple is also reportedly downgrading the manufacturing process for the chipset with lower chip specifications for the iPhone 18. The decision could be to cut costs, given the current situation in the smartphone industry with rising component prices. Other than that, the iPhone 18 is still expected to feature a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1.5K resolution, similar to the iPhone 17.
It’s interesting to see what kind of upgrades the iPhone 18 might offer over the iPhone 17. If you’re coming from an older iPhone model, upgrading to the iPhone 18 might make sense. But for those already using the iPhone 17, you’ll probably not find the switch necessary.
