iQOO has already confirmed the launch date for its next Neo series model, the iQOO Neo 12, in Chins. However, as that series now seems to be restricted to the home country, there’s some reason to cheer for global audiences too as the iQOO 16R has started showing signs of an impending global launch.
A new device carrying the model number I2606 has received certification from Indonesia’s TKDN authority, adding to earlier indications that the iQOO 16R is coming soon. The phone is expected to be based on the China-exclusive iQOO Z12 Turbo, following the same strategy iQOO took with the Z11 Turbo and iQOO 15R. The certification doesn’t reveal any specifications or confirm a launch date but its appearance suggests that its international launch plans could be taking shape.
iQOO 16R specifications
The iQOO 16R is expected to borrow much of its hardware from the upcoming iQOO Z12 Turbo, which was leaked recently. The latter is tipped to feature a 6.59-inch OLED display with a high refresh rate, potentially reaching 165Hz. That would be a step up from the iQOO 15R’s native 120Hz refresh rate, although the latter supports up to 144Hz in compatible games.
Tipster Digital Chat Station claims that the Z12 Turbo will use an upcoming Qualcomm chipset. Its name remains uncertain, with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Pro among the possibilities being discussed. Neither name nor the specifications have been officially confirmed. A 10,000mAh battery has also been tipped for the Z12 Turbo. iQOO is reportedly considering a built-in cooling fan, which could help manage temperatures during long gaming sessions. Whether the battery capacity and active cooling system will carry over to the 16R remains unclear.
The Neo 12 is confirmed to come with a cooling fan, so it’s likely the tech spills over to the 16R too. The iQOO 15 Ultra launched with a cooling fan, and it’s likely the company is looking to make the feature mainstream. As OnePlus preps to launch its Ace 7 series with the same cooling tech, iQOO is already readying competition.
iQOO is readying two very closely-related phones for launch. The iQOO 16R and Neo 12 appear to be separate devices, despite their performance-focused positioning. The Neo 12 is confirmed to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a 2K 185Hz display, a built-in cooling fan and a 9,000mAh battery. It’s scheduled to launch in China on October 28th. The 16R’s leaked specifications suggest a different hardware combination, potentially with a newer Qualcomm platform and a larger battery. However, a direct comparison will have to wait until iQOO reveals more details about the phone.
This is reason to cheer for Indian buyers, given that iQOO has not brought the Neo 11 to the country and has yet to confirm an Indian launch for the Neo 12. The iQOO 15R launched in India in February 2026 at Rs 44,999 for the 8GB + 256GB variant but is now available at Rs 53,999. Based on the China-exclusive Z11 Turbo, it features a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, a 6.59-inch 1.5K AMOLED display, a 7,600mAh battery and 100W charging. The 16R could offer an upgrade for buyers looking for a newer performance phone, particularly if the larger battery and higher refresh rate make it to the final product. However, its charging speeds, camera hardware and pricing remain unknown.
With the TKDN and EEC certifications now in place, an international launch looks plausible, but India availability is still unconfirmed. Buyers considering the iQOO 15R or waiting for its successor should hold off on drawing conclusions until the company announces the 16R’s specifications, pricing and launch plans.
