After teasing it for several days, iQOO has confirmed (via) that iQOO Neo 12 will launch in China on October 28th and go on sale the same day. The upcoming smartphone brings upgrades over the Neo 11, including a faster display, a newer flagship chipset, active cooling and a much larger battery. These features make it a performance-focused offering in the market, in sync with the ideology of the company’s famed Neo series.
The iQOO Neo 12 introduces a different design from the Neo 11, which actually never came to India in the first place. The older model has a vertically arranged dual camera module with a relatively narrow pill housing the lenses and a blue-to-pink gradient finish. Meanwhile, the new phone features a large, rounded-square camera island on the top-left corner of its rear panel. It houses two vertically stacked lenses alongside a section marked “Monster Inside” and a circular grille that appears to accommodate the built-in cooling fan. Slots along the metal side frame appear to serve as exhaust vents, while the flash sits outside the camera island.
The Neo 12’s pale silver-blue finish has diagonal, brush-stroke-like patterns, giving it a more textured appearance than the Neo 11’s sweeping gradient design. The flat metal frame, rounded corners and prominent camera island also give the new model a more gaming-focused look. The design changes are functional as well as cosmetic, with the built-in fan marking a shift from the Neo 11’s dedicated liquid-cooling system to active cooling hardware.
The display is another major upgrade. The Neo 12 features a 2K panel with a 185Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 2,200 nits in high-brightness mode. It can also lower brightness to 1 nit for use in dark environments. iQOO has highlighted a new display material developed with the China Academy of Art.
However, the 185Hz refresh rate needs some context. iQOO hasn’t clarified whether it will work system-wide or only in supported games. OnePlus has introduced a 165Hz system-wide refresh rate on the OnePlus 16, with 185Hz available in specific titles. The Neo 12’s gaming experience will partly depend on how widely its highest refresh rate is supported.
Under the hood, the phone combines the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset with a dedicated Q3 gaming chip. Other confirmed features include a 9,000mAh single-cell battery, a built-in cooling fan, a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and a 5,000Hz touch sampling rate. iQOO also claims support for 2K gaming at up to 185fps in more than 50 games.
For context, the Neo 11 features a 6.82-inch 2K LTPO AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and a Q2 gaming chip paired with dedicated liquid cooling. The Neo 12’s confirmed specifications point to improvements in processing power, refresh rate, cooling and battery capacity. Camera specifications, charging speeds, memory options and durability ratings are yet to be announced.
The iQOO Neo 12 will launch in China on October 28th, with sales beginning the same day. A report suggests it could reach select global markets as the iQOO 16R with the same specifications. A Geekbench listing reportedly associated with the device points to 16GB RAM, Android 17-based OriginOS 7 and an Adreno 840 GPU, though iQOO has not confirmed these details.
An India launch is also unconfirmed, despite a tipster recently suggesting the phone will arrive here. The Neo 11 skipped India, leaving the Neo 10, launched in 2025, as the latest model in the country’s Neo lineup, with just refresh colour options. However, the iQOO 15R did launch in the country. With the Neo 10 now almost two years old, the Neo 12 could be a substantial upgrade for mobile gamers if iQOO brings it to India, whether as a neo series extension or under the ‘R’ branding.
