One such competitor is the Nothing Phone (2a) (review). This phone is Nothing’s first foray into the affordable segment. Both Motorola Edge 50 Fusion and Nothing Phone (2a) pack in compelling features, so it’s only fair we compare them to see which device is superior. Geekbench
We use the Geekbench benchmark test to evaluate a smartphone’s CPU performance. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion registered 1,020 on the single-core test and 2,945 on the multi-core test. In comparison, the Nothing Phone (2a) clocked 1,068 on the single-core test and 2,454 on the multi-core test. The results suggest the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion should offer significantly better performance in multi-core tasks like video editing, recording, multi-tasking, etc., while the single-core performance on both phones is more or less equal.

AnTuTu
The AnTuTu benchmark assesses the comprehensive performance output of a smartphone, including its CPU & GPU performance, memory performance and UX (user experience). The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion registered an aggregate score of 6,20,648, while the Nothing Phone (2a) registered an aggregate score of 7,07,480 points. The Nothing Phone (2a) takes a clear edge in this round thanks to its significantly better GPU performance. The result implies that the Nothing Phone (2a) should offer superior performance for GPU-based tasks like gaming, high-resolution video streaming, etc.

Throttling test
Next, we tested the performance output of both smartphones under throttling using the burnout benchmark app. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion registered a performance output of 76.5 percent, while the Nothing Phone (2a) clocked a score of 54.2 percent. This result highlights that the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is a significantly better performer under stress.

Gaming test
The final test on our list is the gaming test. We played two graphically demanding games, COD: Mobile and BGMI, on both phones at similar resolutions and frame rate settings to gauge their performance output. It is worth noting that the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion supports higher resolution (Ultra HDR) on BGMI compared to the Nothing Phone (2a), while the latter supports higher resolution on COD: Mobile (Very High) compared to the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion.
The gaming experience on both devices is quite comparable, with an average frame rate of 60FPS in COD: Mobile and around 40FPS in BGMI. The differences start to emerge when we compare their thermals. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion showcased an average temperature increase of roughly 7.4 degrees C compared to the average increase of 8 degrees C on the Nothing Phone (2a). The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion offers slightly better thermal management compared to the Nothing Phone (2a).

Verdict
In our performance comparison, the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion emerges as the winner. The smartphone registered a higher Geekbench multi-core score, offered better performance output under stress, and delivered marginally better thermal performance while gaming. The real-world performance of both phones is quite comparable, both in day-to-day use and gaming. If you’re in the market to buy a new smartphone under Rs 25,000 and wondering which smartphone is the better performer between the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion and the Nothing Phone (2a), the former delivers a more rounded performance output.
While the Nothing Phone (2a) loses in our comparison test, it is important to note that the device has better raw performance output, as evident in its AnTuTu score. The Nothing Phone (2a) also features a unique design and comes with a flat display, which is more suitable for gaming.
